Aerospace Alumnus Honored at UMD Annual Alumni Gala
Department of Aerospace Engineering alumnus Kevin M. Schoonover (B.S., '06) was awarded the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award at the University of Maryland's 13th Annual Alumni Association Awards Gala, held on October 25, 2013. The gala's award ceremony celebrates alumni who have made their mark on the university. Schoonover was one of three A. James Clark School alumni honored.
Currently, Schoonover is a director of strategy and business development for Alliant Techsystems and has already been named a "rising star in the global aerospace and defense industry" in Aviation Week & Space Technology's “40 Under 40." While attending the University of Maryland, he completed honors certifications from the Quality Enhancements and Teams (QUEST) Honors Program and earned a Six Sigma Green Belt certification. After taking on a leadership role in the Clark Ambassadors recruiting program, Schoonover continued to remain active within the UMD community by serving as a committee chair for student relations of the University of Maryland Engineering Alumni Chapter, as a member of the QUEST Alumni Board and as a competition manager of the Alumni Cup Competition.
The Young Alumnus Award is presented annually to a University of Maryland alumna/us not older than 35, who completed their undergraduate degree within the last 10 years, and who has distinguished themselves personally and professionally.
