Aerospace Alumni and Faculty Honored by AIAA

The American Institute for Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) has published this quarter's Honors and Awards in the August edition of Aerospace America.

Mark Lewis, Clark School of Engineering and Willis Young Professor, has been announced as the Energy Systems Award honoree. Lewis is currently serving as the Chief Scientist for the U.S. Air Force.

Mark Tischler (AE), BS'78, MS'79, has received the AIAA Aerospace Software Engineering Award which is presented for outstanding technical and/or management contributions to aeronautical or astronautical software engineering. Tischler is a Senior Scientist and Flight Control Group Leader at NASA Ames.

Mike Griffin (AE), Ph.D.'77, received the Goddard Astronautics Award. This award, named to honor Robert H. Goddard—rocket visionary, pioneer, bold experimentalist, and superb engineer— is the highest honor AIAA bestows for notable achievement in the field of astronautics. Griffin is the NASA Administrator.

Every quarter, national award recipients are showcased through the AIAA Honors and Awards program. These awards are given to individuals and teams who have taken aerospace technology to the next level, who have advanced the quality and depth of the aerospace profession, and who have leveraged their aerospace knowledge for the benefit of society.
