We do not require a writing sample, but you are welcome to upload one if you feel it will better represent your qualifications. Additional documents can be uploaded to the “Upload" section of the application.

We strictly enforce our admission requirements and do not recommend applying if you do not fulfill those minimum expected requirements.

Please note that these requirements are expected minimums for consideration for admission and oftentimes admitted students score well beyond these.

Masters Program Expected Minimum
GPA of 3.2 / 4.0
GRE quantitative score of 85%

Doctoral Program Expected Minimum
GPA of 3.5 / 4.0
GRE quantitative score of 90%

Invited students will attend department visit days in spring. If you are not invited or are not available to attend, please contact individual faculty of interests to make indpendent arrangements.

UMD and the Clark School offers several programs and opportunities, such as the Future Faculty Program, for students looking to gain teaching experience.
