Does your program require a writing sample?
We do not require a writing sample, but you are welcome to upload one if you feel it will better represent your qualifications. Additional documents can be uploaded to the “Upload" section of the application.
My GRE score and/or GPA is just below your program minimums. Should I still apply?
We strictly enforce our admission requirements and do not recommend applying if you do not fullfil those requirements. Please note that these requirements are minimums for consideration for admission. and oftentimes admitted students score well beyond these.
Masters Program Minimum
GPA of 3.2 / 4.0
GRE quantitative score of 85%
Doctoral Program Minimum
GPA of 3.5 / 4.0
GRE quantitative score of 90%

Which term should I select for admission?
Either "Spring 20__" or "Fall 20__". (Note: Please do not include a hyphen when entering the term.)
Can I stop by the department for a tour?
Invited students will attend department visit days in spring. If you are not invited or are not available to attend, please contact individual faculty of interests to make indpendent arrangements.
My career goal is academia or teaching. Will I be able to gain teaching experience while in the graduate program?
UMD does offer several programs and opportunities for students looking to gain teaching experience. If you want to gain teaching experience, please indicate that in your statement of purpose so we are aware of your intent and can direct you to the appropriate resources.
