Registration Open for University of Maryland Project Management Symposium

Two-Day Event Highlights Include New Session Tracks, National Nuclear Security Administration Keynote

College Park, Md. – The University of Maryland Project Management Center for Excellence has announced that early-bird registration is now open for the third annual Project Management Symposium, taking place May 12-13, 2016, at the Stamp Student Union on the University of Maryland campus in College Park, Md.

UMD’s Project Management Center for Excellence has proudly named the National Nuclear Security Administration’s (NNSA) Kenneth Sheely one of this year’s highly anticipated keynote speakers.

As Deputy Associate Administrator for Infrastructure at the NNSA, Sheely is responsible for leading efforts to maintain, operate, and modernize NNSA’s general purpose infrastructure. This includes 6,000 facilities located in seven states comprising more than $50 billion in real property assets.

In the past year, NNSA has deployed innovative, revolutionary management tools to facilitate a data-driven process that leads to risk-informed investment decisions. Having experienced this transition firsthand, Sheely will share how the NNSA has adapted best practices of agile development and applied them to improving management of its infrastructure portfolio at an enterprise level.

Each year, UMD’s Project Management Symposium draws capacity crowds made up of both project management professionals and academics from throughout the Washington-Baltimore region and from areas around the world. New this year, attendees will not only hear from many of the leading minds in project management, but they will also have the opportunity to choose sessions from a brand-new list of tracks, which includes aerospace and defense best practices, Building Information Modeling (BIM), construction management, and people in projects.

Additionally, symposium participants will rub elbows with project managers from a host of backgrounds and career levels during a special networking reception taking place on May 12th.  

In the coming weeks, UMD’s Project Management Center for Excellence will announce four additional in-demand keynote speakers, dozens of session speakers, and brand-new partnerships geared to make this year’s symposium experience unlike any other.

This event is a high-value opportunity for project management professionals seeking insights on topics including federal programs, risk and big data, sustainability, public private partnerships, disaster management, and more. Attendees can either cherry-pick from each of these topic areas or craft their own experience by choosing a session track that meets their specific interests. Even more, attendees can earn up to 15 professional development units (PDUs) toward maintaining a PMI credential.

This year’s event is on track to shatter previous attendance records, so those interested in participating are strongly encouraged to register in advance of the April 1 early-bird deadline to gain the most value.
